Mirror Pond Solutions, LLC, will be "hosting" and "chairing" these meetings with public officials from the City of bend and the Parks District and "setting the agenda and format of the meetings."

In other words, the entity that stands to gain the most by a decision to provide public funds for its own dredging project will be controlling the flow of facts used by these public officials to make that decision.

And, it will all be done in secret.

Dear Mr. Fell,

I have received your records request and have attached the only documents that we have that pertain to your request. . . .

At this time, this committee has just formed, no meetings have taken place and no meetings have been scheduled. Mirror Pond Solutions will be setting the agenda and format of the meetings. This is a fact finding opportunity to gather information about a solution to Mirror Pond; therefore, this committee does not meet the standards of a public meeting.

Thank you for your time and concerns, please feel free to contact me with any further questions.

Sincerely,
Sheila Reed

There isn’t one that I am aware of.  The committee was requested by Mirror Pond Solutions, so they are the host.

Has the BPRD Mirror Pond fact finding committee been appointed?

If so, who are the appointees?

 Thanks so much.

Bend

Both Bend newspapers have published editorials calling for open public meetings of the Mirror Pond fact finding committee.

What's more:  Check out the following E-mails from Thursday, June 14.

Type your paragraph here.

The Source Weekly.

The Bend Parks Mirror Pond fact-finding committee--for whatever reason--will proceed without representation from any of its 3 most environmentally-minded members; the City of Bend's fact-finding committee has excluded the City Council's 2 most environmentally committed members.  All seated members on both of these committees are dam supporters and Mirror Pond boosters, despite evidence that sharp divisions exist in our community over the future of Mirror Pond.  (See Website page entitled "Statistically accurate Mirror Pond survey has been done.")

Elected officials from both the City of Bend and the Bend Parks District will be meeting in secret with Mirror Pond Solutions, LLC.  The purpose:  to fact-find and determine whether it is appropriate to give Mirror Pond Solutions $3.55 million in public funds for the dredging.  Unfortunately, the format for these meetings calls for shutting out public attendance; the fact that secrecy will be enforced begs the question--will the only "facts" heard be those provided by Mirror Pond Solutions, which will be "hosting," "chairing," and "setting the agenda and format of the meetings."

City of Bend Mayor Casey Roats Mayor Roats has the power to open these meetings to the public,

if he so chooses.
